How BeWorldClass Supports Mental Wellness
What is BeWorldClass
BeWorldClass is an online program for schools to help develop the characteristics young people need to thrive in school and later in life. It can be used through primary school, secondary school and post 16 education.
Students are guided to develop characteristics like confidence, resilience and leadership, through real world activity and reflection.
The Importance of Developing Character for Wellbeing
Developing strong character traits can help young people navigate the challenges of life by giving them the tools to stay true to themselves and withstand external pressures.
Young people today face a unique set of challenges, particularly when it comes to social media. The pressure to present a curated and polished image of themselves can be overwhelming, and they can have very few opportunities to reflect and celebrate their strengths.
BeWorldClass is a whole school approach to provide a foundation for mental wellness through helping young people develop their personal characteristics and reflect on their strengths, and is designed to step in before issues become mental health concerns.
An Innovative Approach to Developing Characteristics
If you ask the average state school student “what are your strengths”, many will not be able to answer. Not because they do not have the innate capacity for potential, but because they don’t yet have the confidence and reflection skills to describe their strengths.
Through the framework of characteristics, students have a way to explore their strengths and interests in a structured way. Each characteristic within the framework provides a guide for students to develop and exhibit these qualities. Every young person will then have an example to add for each characteristic, as they reflect on their achievements and how they’ve used these qualities to overcome challenges.
Characteristics can not be developed only in a classroom, for example they can learn about confidence, integrity and resilience in a lesson or school assembly, but to truly develop these characteristics they need to exhibit this in their actions outside of the classroom. This is why BeWorldClass then focuses on encouraging real world action and reflecting on improvements.
Supporting students outside of school
Because of the constraints on teachers’ time, schools often only have the capacity to understand a small section of a young person’s life, focusing primarily on academic performance. BeWorldClass helps young people reflect on how their character is being developed both in and outside of school, and helps schools understand the achievements and struggles that are important to the pupil.
By focusing on the development of their character, students are better equipped to handle challenges both inside and outside the classroom. This can help put academic pressure in perspective, as students are encouraged to focus on their personal growth and development as well as their academic achievements.

Identifying where students are struggling
While working through the framework, pupils rate their confidence in each characteristic on a 1-5 scale. This allows teachers to easily identify which students may be in need of support in certain areas.
Schools can also use the inclusion tracking feature to address disparities across different groups of students. For example across, gender, SEND status or pupil premium.
Time efficient for schools
Pupils can work through BeWorldClass independently, or with guidance and feedback from a teacher, depending on what is best for that school. Teachers can review the individual characteristics of each pupil, or gain insights by viewing data from an entire cohort. BeWorldClass can be used on any device with an internet connection, so it can be used at any time.
